Company has developed an integrated approach to support the heating and
air conditioning industry as it focuses its engineering attention on the
new Season Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) standard that takes effect next
year.
CoolBlue Solutions ™ is a portfolio of high-efficiency motors,
electronics, and design ideas that promise to help customers achieve 13
SEER efficiency and higher in their heating and cooling systems.
The company unveiled its CoolBlue Solutions concept with interactive displays
and presentations at the 2005 AHR Expo at the Orange County Convention
Center in Orlando, Fla.
"CoolBlue is a unique approach to the challenging new SEER standard,"
Chris Mapes, president of A. O. Smith Electrical Products, said. "We
want to partner with our customers at the earliest stages of the design
process; this will allow joint contribution of ideas and products that
can optimize system efficiency."
"Ideally, we can design a solution in which evaporator, condenser,
and compressor motors are controlled by one integrated set of electronics
that not only delivers improved system efficiency, but also can be adapted
to the individual home environment."
Among the newest A. O. Smith innovations that are featured in CoolBlue
Solutions:
• The A. O. Smith ECM motor. This electronically controlled motor
is designed to deliver constant CFM for the ultimate in home comfort.
The motor features full programmability that allows the installer to tailor
the system to the specific home application;
• The new Comfort Select ™ motor. A brushless DC motor integrated
with high-speed electronic control capability. This design allows the
customer to select from five pre-programmed speeds to deliver the specific
output required by the application. In low-speed operation, the motor
continually circulates the air for improve comfort;
• The new IPM compressor motor. This unique design features internal
permanent magnets for more robust performance at high speeds and variable
capacity technology for enhanced system efficiency;
• Enhanced air flow systems for high-efficiency furnaces. These
pre-packaged air-moving units come with electronically controlled brushless
DC motors that are integrated into the blower. The motor/blower modules
can be "tuned" to compensate for variations within the application.
In addition to enhanced system efficiency, CoolBlue Solutions offer heating
and air conditioning manufactures other benefits.
