A. O. Smith Electrical Products announces executive promotions |

July 2, 2001 - Milwaukee, Wis.A. O. Smith Electrical Products Company today announced two new executive assignments. Myron Charas has been named vice president-planning and financial analysis for the Tipp City, Ohio based electric motor manufacturer. Charles T. Lauber has been promoted to vice president-controller of the division. Charas, 55, will be responsible for advanced planning, financial forecasting and analysis, as well as providing financial reviews of all acquisitions, growth initiatives, and product repositioning. He will continue to serve as the executive manager for the company's integral horsepower strategic business unit. Charas joined Electrical Products Company in 1977 as an accountant at the Mt. Sterling, Ky., hermetic motor plant. He was named division controller in 1981 and returned to Mt. Sterling in 1983 as plant manager. In 1991, Charas become vice president of hermetic operations, responsible for Electrical Products Company's hermetic motor plants in Mt. Sterling, Mebane, N.C., Acuna, Mexico, and Bray, Ireland. Three years later, he was promoted to vice president-controller of the company. Charas earned a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1973 and an MBA degree from Morehead State University, Morehead, Ky., in 1980. Lauber, 39, will be responsible for all general accounting, cost accounting, credit and collections functions for the $900 million electric motor manufacturer. Lauber joined A. O. Smith's Milwaukee headquarters operations in 1999 as director of tax and audit, responsible for the company's internal audit function and its tax department. Prior to joining A. O. Smith, Lauber worked for 15 years with the public accounting firm of Ernst & Young. He held a number of staff audit and accounting management positions with that firm, and was named a senior manager of its Milwaukee office in 1993. Lauber earned a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1984. He is a member of the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. A. O.
