Wainright joins A. O. Smith as senior vice president of operations

July 2, 2001 - Milwaukee, Wis.—A. O. Smith Electrical Products Company today named James Wainright senior vice president-operations..

Wainright will have overall responsibility for the $900 million company's manufacturing operations as well as its continuous improvement initiative. Electrical Products Company manufactures a comprehensive line of fractional horsepower, hermetic, and integral horsepower electric motors for a wide range of applications.

Wainright brings more than 22 years' operations management and engineering experience to his new position. For the past two years, he has been vice president of operations for Lear Corporation's Manufacturing Operations Division. In that position, he had responsibility for nine manufacturing plants that supplied interior systems to the domestic automotive industry.

Prior to that assignment, he was director of manufacturing operations for Lear's Electrical & Electronics Division with plants in the U. S., Mexico, and Honduras.

Wainright spent 17 years with United Technologies Corporation. He worked in its automotive operations before Lear acquired that business in 1999, and also held manufacturing and engineering assignments with United Technologies' Carrier unit, a major manufacturer of residential and commercial heating and air conditioning equipment.

Wainright earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Oswego State University, Oswego, N.Y., in 1978. He received an MBA degree from Lawrence Institute of Technology, Southfield, Mich., in 1999.
