November 8, 2000 - Most Powerful 48 Frame Spa Motor at NSPI 2000. A.O. Smith meets pool and spa industrys call for more power with 48 frame two-speed motor full rated three horsepower motor. Tipp City, Ohio A.O. Smith, a leader in electric pump motors for the pool and spa industry, has taken the 48 frame spa motor to an unprecedented level of power. At NSPI 2000, held in Orlando, Fla., November 8 through November 10, A.O. Smith is unveiling the industrys first 48 frame spa motor full rated at three horsepower and ratable as a special six horsepower motor. Until now, the most powerful spa motor available was full rated at two and one-half horsepower. "A.O. Smith takes its role as the leader in pump motors for pool and spa applications seriously," said Mike Metzler, A.O. Smith Electrical Products Company marketing manager for pump motors. "When we perceived that the market wanted a more powerful 48-frame motor for todays larger spas, our engineering and manufacturing teams went to work. Their commitment and ingenuity enabled them to develop the industrys first true three horsepower 48 frame motor by improvements to cooling." The new 48 frame spa motor features "the original" A.O. Smith two-compartment design, with separate work room and control room. Its capacitor start/permanent split capacitor combination enables the two-speed motor to be started directly in high speed or low speed, without risk of motor problems. The motor also introduces a new switch configuration for improved quietness and reliability. The industrys most powerful 48 frame spa motor is available with through-bolt or square flange mounts. Additional features include a single-phase design with high-quality ball bearings and thermal overload protection. A.O. Smith Electrical Products Company, based in Tipp City, Ohio, is A.O. Smith Corporation's largest operating unit with 1999 sales of $723 million. It manufactures a comprehensive line of hermetic, subfractional, fractional, and integral horsepower AC and DC electric motors used in a wide array of consumer, commercial, and industrial products.
