A.O. Smith Introduces Line of Speed Engineered™ Washdown Motors for Food Processing Applications

March 31, 2000 - Tipp City, Ohio – A.O. Smith Electrical Products Company, a leading supplier of electric motors for a wide array of consumer, commercial, and industrial products, is introducing a line of painted washdown E-Plus ® motors, ranging from ½ to 10 horsepower. The motors are specially designed for food processing, baking, and other applications that require frequent high-pressure washdowns or otherwise expose equipment to water, chemicals, and high humidity.

A.O. Smith’s new painted washdown motor is protected with an electrostatic epoxy primer for superior chemical resistance and is top-coated with a USDA-approved two-part epoxy white paint for durability. Lip and Forsheda seals on both motor ends, sealed bolts, and white neoprene gaskets between the conduit box and both the frame and cover, seal out moisture and contaminants. Additional corrosion-resistant features include stainless steel hardware, coated rotors, and double-sealed, permanently lubricated bearings.

A.O. Smith designs and tests its washdown motors to ensure they are "corona-free," rendering them compatible with variable speed drives. The energy-efficienct E-Plus® washdown motors also meet the federally mandated Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPAct).

A.O. Smith also offers ¼ to one horsepower PMDC washdown motors; and ½ to 1 ½ horsepower paint-free motors.

A.O. Smith stocks a variety of motors available for immediate shipment from its Regional Distribution Centers throughout the U.S. and centers in Canada and Asia. Large orders and orders requiring standard modifications to "off-the-shelf" products can be quickly filled from the company’s Central Distribution Center in LaVergne, Tenn.

A.O. Smith Electrical Products Company, based in Tipp City, Ohio, is A.O. Smith Corporation's largest operating unit with 1999 sales of $723 million. It manufactures a comprehensive line of hermetic, subfractional, fractional, and integral horsepower AC and DC electric motors used in a wide array of consumer, commercial, and industrial products.
