March 31, 2000 - Open Dripproof Motors in Rugged Cast Iron Construction
Tipp City, Ohio A.O. Smith Electrical Products Company (EPC), a leading supplier of electric motors for residential, commercial and industrial applications, is announcing a new line of Century Industrial E-Plus® open dripproof motors in cast-iron construction at the EASA 2000 convention April 2-5 in Anaheim, Calif. This rugged, cast-iron construction is built for reliable industrial service in demanding continuous-duty applications, including blowers, pumps, compressors and conveyors. A.O. Smiths durable cast-iron construction includes cast-iron frame and bearing brackets, and a corrosion-resistant finish for longer life. The new cast-iron Century Industrial E-Plus® line is available in a broad range of models, from 1.5 horsepower through 200 horsepower, with operational speeds of 3600, 1800 and 1200 RPM. The motors are three-phase with rigid bases and are field convertible from F-1 to F-2. A.O. Smiths Century E-Plus® motors meet EPACT-legislated efficiency requirements and are UL certified and CSA approved. E-Plus® motors also have been Speed Engineered® to ensure they are corona-free for compatible inverter duty. Corona is a destructive condition which often exists in motors used with variable speed drives (VFDs). When it exists in a motor, corona can damage the insulation that protects motor wire and cause the motor to fail prematurely. The new cast-iron open dripproof E-Plus® line is part of a complete Century® industrial product line offered by A.O. Smith. The line includes motors for applications requiring open dripproof, totally enclosed fan cooled, totally enclosed fan cooled - severe duty, IEEE 841, explosionproof and inverter-duty Speed Plus design and construction. A.O. Smith stocks a variety of motors available for immediate shipment from its Regional Distribution Centers throughout the U.S. and centers in Canada and Asia. Large orders and orders requiring standard modifications to "off-the-shelf" products also can be quickly filled from the companys Central Distribution Center in LaVergne, Tenn. A.O. Smith Electrical Products Company, based in Tipp City, Ohio, is A.O. Smith Corporation's largest operating unit with 1999 sales of $723 million. It manufactures a comprehensive line of hermetic, subfractional, fractional, and integral horsepower AC and DC electric motors used in a wide array of consumer, commercial, and industrial products.
